For those of you who followed the 2014 budget, you may have heard something about the Home Renovation Incentive Scheme. This scheme was due to kick off in January 2014. However, the government have decided to bring forward the plans, meaning that incentives for homeowners to renovate their homes are in effect from TODAY!

The measure as among a number of changes announced in the Finance Bill 2013, which was published yesterday. It is believed that this particular measure was brought forward due to extensive lobbying and fears that delaying the introduction of the scheme may see a decline in construction work between now and Christmas.
Basically, work costing a minimum of €5000 could qualify for a minimum tax credit of €675 with up to €4050 in tax relief being available if the work exceeds €30000 in cost.
Measures associated with the Home Renovation Incentive Scheme will apply in the first three months of 2016, where planning permission has been granted before 31 December 2015. Note that homeowners and construction workers need to be tax compliant in order to qualify for the reliefs.
